This is the flower of the Phaius tankervilleae, known as the Swamp Orchid. They say it is a much sought after Australian orchid, and very hardy growing.
Here it is planted in the garden near the bottle brush and amongst the heliconias and gingers. We are hoping it will thrive.

and this lovely pink cactus has opened its buds.
