Flying Lessons 2012

I promised some people through the week that I will give an update on this online course I am doing.

We have just finished the second week and it is remarkable to see the information covered.

In the first week we looked at Inspiration, passion and goals, facing our fears, how to improve our blog/ website etc and how to attract more followers!

Week 2 covered websites and social networking as well as creating community.

So much information coming so fast is mind blowing!  Every person is loving the friendships we have developed - though I am wondering how I can be called an artist, when the real artists are the painters and the writers, I think.  Though another member of our community has said the same and was told that we are all artists and we all can learn from one another also.

There's almost 500 people involved in this course, so that speaks for itself I reckon!  I am really lucky to be doing it!  Now I just have to work out how to add a signature to these posts...........

Blogtober is Coming!

Kat at I Saw You Dancing is hosting this year's Blogtober, while Tinniegirl is taking a nice holiday.

It was great fun doing this last year,  so if you would like to join in then sign up now.  The sign up page is here.  There are 32 of us so far, and there is only 3 more days to go!

I Really Did Try

to get some pictures of the lorikeets as they played around in our bottlebrush tree.

Each afternoon they have been stopping by on their way to some big roosting trees, about 130 metres behind our garden.  NOTE: I said "Have been"!!

Of course, this afternoon I was waiting for them, with the trusty camera at the ready, Tommy by my side. Of course, none of them came!

Tommy got bored:

So he had a snooze.

I took a picture of our bottle brush:

You can see how dark it is getting, can't you?

The lorikeets were all screeching up in the trees behind us, so I took some long distance pictures:

Well, they're better than nothing aren't they?  Don't forget that you can click on the pictures and get a closer look at them

Down Under Doll Quilt Swap 3

I've been working on my quilt for my partner, and this is how it is looking now:

Yes, I know it's crooked - it's meant to be that way!  Still needs Binding etc, but I'm pleased with how it is going.

Now I just have to hope that my partner likes it......

I Just Had to Show You This

A friend sent this to me and I just had to share it!

Isn't that just so real??

Guess What We Found!!

Alan and I visited a local hardware store that has a garden section, yesterday, and I dawdled into their garden section, just for a quick look.

It's a BLACK Bat plant!!!

Looks exactly the same as the white bat plant, doesn't it?

But this one has black flowers!  We are so excited with this find.  Haven't yet planted either of them, might keep them both in pots , at least for this year.

It will be interesting when they both flower, won't it!!

Spring is Springing Rapidly Now!!!

It's been a while since I have actually spoken to you about the garden, so I thought to myself "tonight is the night".  So here we are.

Our weather has been beautiful, as they say "Queensland, beautiful one day and perfect the next",  I have to agree at this time of the year.  The days are warm to hot, and the nights are cooler, so we can get a good nights sleep.

So I have been looking around the garden and watching for the flowers to show you.

As well as  all the orchids that I have been showing you lately (just stroll back through the posts to the last Sunday Snippets here, and take a look.) we have this now:

behind the cute little begonia flowers is a White Bat Plant, still in his pot but to be planted out this weekend in the same area.  I am really looking forward to this one flowering, hopefully this summer!

Two closer photographs of our beautiful Australian Swamp Orchid. He still has many more flowers to open yet and it a stunning sight!

The dear old Bottlebrush is just beginning to flower and has loads more brushes to open, and then we will get the Lorikeets down drinking the nectar and arguing and screeching! They are such characters. No doubt I will manage to take some funny pictures of them soon!

I hope you have enjoyed your look at the garden and I will post more pictures as things happen out there!

Flying Lessons

.

I have just begun Kelly Rae Roberts Flying Lessons.  There are creative people from all over the world doing this course, which is the last one Kelly Rae will be doing.  There is just so much energy and excitement in our online classroom and Facebook page, it is amazing.

What I will get from this course I am not sure yet, but the sky is the limit.

I just wanted to share it with you!

The Latest Quilt

Here's the latest quilt from my Thursday morning Sewing Group:

Meet the Circle Quilt:-

The whole quilt - it looks like I have tried to hide the bottom right blocks, tho' I haven't really - it just worked out that way!  This quilt is made up of blocks that I received from fellow bee members last year, and from this year, they all go together so well. All the different greys really go well together and they help all the colours sing.

Here's the top half,

and here's the bottom half.
I love the way it has turned out, and truly don't know who it is destined to live with at this time!

and here is a gratuitous flower picture for your enjoyment.

Just a Quick Update

I thought you would like to know how well my finger is going - I am able to remove the dressing now to give some air to the wound - I'm so excited!!

Have been doing some crochet - I don't use my left index finger for that, and have to finish off a quilt binding by hand, before I show it to you.

I do have a quilt to show you though, it is my second latest finish from my Thursday morning sewing group.  Meet The Jungle:

If you look closely, you should see Miss Ellie's earrings - I haven't finished all the embellishing on this quilt yet, but I am doing it as the mood takes me and I've thought of something cute!

Accidentally took this pic of the back of The Jungle - you may as well see it as well!!!

OUTCH!! Oh My Goodness!

I screamed as I had an accident in the kitchen yesterday!

I was putting this back in it's box, to go back into the cupboard where it lives:

My finger slipped somehow, and the slicer took a bit of skin and flesh off the back of my finger! It's taken a slab about 6cms x 4cms! and it's darn deep...
So now I am left with this:

It's great fun when I'm on Warfarin. Every time I go to the medical centre to have it dressed, they remove the old dressing and it starts to bleed madly again.

Looks like it will be a while before it heals, so in the meantime I am very carefully sewing only.

No crochet or knitting for me for a while!!

Tea and sympathy is required I think! Thank you! I'll be fine! Really I will!
