The Last Quilt!!

I don't mean it is my last quilt, but it's the last birthday quilt!!  Just in case you were concerned (big grin!!!)

No pics today, the top is all pieced now.

Now it will be measured for batting and backing and also for binding.

It will be taken to my Thursday morning sewing group to be basted and all put together.  It's a monster quilt - covers a queen sized bed and the sides are completely covered!

Now that will be a job for my Brother machine (or maybe the Janome!).  Lots of fun coming!!

Just a Peek!

Half square triangles, 6” square, zillions of them!

Points just don’t matter on this one!  Truly, it’s the last thing anyone would notice!  I do love half square triangles, they are such fun.  Do you use them much? I definitely will use them again soon.

Some gorgeous favourite fabrics in this.  Should be complete within two weeks I hope, and on it’s way south for the birthday

Sorry I can’t show any more of it, you will have to wait till it’s posted and received!

Time for a Look at the Garden!

Well it is time for a look at our garden, now that summer is over, and we are rushing towards Winter, the garden is beginning to settle in for a sleep. Don’t forget to click on the pictures to get a better view!
Our days have been so pleasant – this time of the year here is beautiful during the day but freezing cold at night.  Alan and I have been pottering around a bit, and Di is back to help us fix those pesky weeds that tried to smother everyone through the summer…

See the long shadows from the house to the back fence? Even though the days are beautiful, they are short – by 5.00pm it is almost dark  and cold!

Do you see in the middle of this garden, there is a plant with large heart shaped leaves?  It is supposed to be a giant strelitzia!  Should be upwards of 6 feet tall by now – I guess it dislikes water around it’s feet!  Oops! Thats me!!

You can see the shadows again in this pic – weeding hasn’t begun here yet.

Here we have tied a “dancing lady” orchid to the palm to grow.

I hope you enjoyed your look around the garden  - hopefully we will have some flowering through the winter to show you also!

Bloggers Quilt Festival is here Again!

The Bloggers Quilt Festival starts tomorrow, over on Amy's Creative Side, just a note to remind you to hop on over there and see all the marvellous quilts that will be shown!

It will run from 18 May through to 1 June, and I think that viewers get a chance to vote for their favourites this year. (So yes, I am putting a quilt in!) And theirs some prizes too, so don't forget to check them out as well!

It is always lots of fun, so go ahead and put a quilt of your own in too. The more the merrier they say!!

Final Drawing is Transferred!

As well as all those pesky half square triangles being sewn into a quilt (sorry, I can’t show them yet!)I have been working on my embroidery piece for my Sumptuous Surfaces Embroidery course.
So here is the picture of the final drawing, I’m calling it “What Goes Around Comes Around” and this weekend I will be working on the first layer of stitches.

Embroidery Course

Last week I began an embroidery design course, called "Sumptuous Surface Embroidery", with Sharon Boggon at Pintangle.

Last Wednesday started week 1, and it has been very interesting.  I am learning lots of useful things. Sharon is teaching us how to design and work our own embroideries so there's a lot of thinking and drawing going on here so far!

I thought you might like to see what I have come up with so far:

It's a fairly broad concept, but I like this interpretation. It all came from this head!!

I was thinking of doing a 6" x 6" piece, but that is an awful lot of stitches, so it may end up a bit smaller!
And these are the threads I will be doing this piece in:

For the first three weeks we are working in monotone, and letting the texture show without worrying about colour, and the last three weeks we work in colour on another design of our own.

While I'm here, I will tell you that there are an unbelievable number of half square triangles being worked here, so the quilt is coming along in leaps and bounds. In fact that is why I haven't been posting as often, but I hopefully will be back to normal soon....

Just Finished

Look what I just finished!  I used up all the mohair I had in my yarn stash and here's the result:

It's a mohair shawl! Rather a large one too...

These are the spirals that will be added to the fringe.  They are all crocheted with the same number of stitches, but different yarns. All look different don't they?

And here's the lot artistically arranged on the table.

An Interesting Little Swap

Hop on over to Cheryll's blog and take a look - it should be fun!

I'm going to join in this month because the letter is "A", and I thought it might be fun to get those items together.

If you join in, we might be partners!
