My Sophie

Firstly my friends, I must thank you for your beautiful comments on my Sophies Universe last week!  You were all so kind and it was really lovely to read what was said, gives me much happiness.

Sophie is turning into an octagon this week!

So here she is again - I have just this moment finished the orange row:-

Here I have done another 12 or so rows since the last time.

I am pleased with the colours I have chosen, it is confusing though, because I don't read ahead in the pattern. so I have just been lucky with my colour placement so far!

I noticed here that my tulips don't line up with their stems very well- but this is the way they will stay I'm afraid!  Too much work to undo and redo so I'm not...

You may notice HERE that I have now removed those multi coloured petals - I'm thinking they may look better in yellow. They just didn't look right with the variegated tulips so close to them - too garish, even for me!!

I have realised something about myself that I wasn't aware of previously.  Normally, I have at least 2 or 3 or even more, things on the go at once.  Then I'll think of something else that I want to do, so I'll start that as well, while it's fresh in my mind.  Crazy.

Doing this blanket has been really good for me - I am always so interested in what is going to happen next, my mind is totally  occupied and I don't think of starting anything else!  So, I must need the variety that this project is giving me, and this is why I don't read the pattern ahead, so that it is a surprise for me when I read it first. Is that logical?

So now I will have to find other patterns with this type of variety in them, to keep me on the straight and narrow!

This past week, we have had our grand daughters up in Brisbane from Young.  They were very busy, rushing here and there to see everything that they wanted to see, and we drove them out to the airport last Thursday, to catch the plane home.  I have been working on something as a gift, and got them to deliver it for me, to their mother:

A shawl to wrap herself in and hopefully keep a bit warm  - their temperatures have been minus degrees at night and just teenage figures through the day!

No wonder the girls want to move up here!

So that's me for this, hope you are all doing well

Take care

Meet My Sophies Universe....

This week I have begun the most amazing crochet blanket, I just can't wait to show you!

First up, I shall explain about Sophie's Universe to those who do not crochet. Please excuse any mistakes I may make here, as I am not really very knowledgeable about this wonderful crocheter!

Once upon a time, there was a lady named Dedri Uys and she ran a blog called "Look at What I Made", on which she did a Crochet Along every year.

So, anyhows, she decided that she would like to make a blanket based on a specific crocheted block, named "Sophie's Garden".

So she did.

This CAL has been taken up by literally thousands of crocheters around the world, and there is a group on Facebook where all the Sophie's Universe blankets are on show - you really should drop by and have a look - there is just so much eye candy there! I'm not sure if you will have to join the group or not.

So for months now I have been watching the members of this group paste their progress on Facebook, and for months I have been thinking of starting my own "Sophie".  So this week I finally did it! Everyone else is finished I think, I don't believe in rushing into things - anyhow I have been busy with other things.

So TA DAAA Here she is:

I have not had the opportunity to block her yet, she will be straightened out a bit when I do.
\

This is the beginning of my Sophie. I did this amount on my first day, it is really hard to put her down once you start - I keep wanting to see what comes next!

I have just finished this this evening - this is actually the "Sophie's Garden" block, so I could stop here if I wanted, and use this block for another blanket. I won't though!

Here is a bit of a close up of the centre flower.  I was extremely unhappy with the red and green coloured yarn at first, but as I continued it doesn't seem so "christmassy" any more.

Close up of a corner - I am very pleased with how all my flowers have finished up looking, and there is an awful lot of stitches in this that I haven't done for years and years, so I'm pleased that I have remembered everything and don't need to research things too much!!

So I am hoping that I will be able to get at least 2 or 3 of these "Sophie's" done by Christmas, and give them as gifts to some people. I'll see how I go with this firt one!

SO if you would like me to, I will show you my progress each week and you can give me some feedback. Would that be good? I know I would appreciate any feedback.

Take Care

The Old Photo Challenge 2015 - Cancelled

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been around much, have been crocheting like a mad woman, to get things finished in time to be delivered.

Photos coming shortly!

I have decided that due to the lack of interest, I am cancelling the Old Photo Challenge for 2015.

I have been thinking about this for at least two months, and finally made the momentous decision that there is really not enough happening to warrant keeping it going.

So I will start our weekly photo shoot again next year and I think that maybe that will be more popular.

Hope everyone is well, and I will be back this week with some pictures of all sorts!
