It’s on the Way!

As I promised, the quilt show is this evening!
It is winging it’s way to country New South Wales as I type.
P6120001Here is the quilt in its travelling bag, ready to go to the post office.  Hard to imagine it fits a queen sized bed, isn’t it?
P6110001And here it is on the bed – half square triangles in every setting I could imagine – some amazing designs show up once its finished…..

P6110002  The label and the backing – if she gets tired of all the colour on the front she can simply turn it over!

I am really pleased about this finish and eager to get on with other things now.

Just a Peek!

Half square triangles, 6” square, zillions of them!

P5240006

Points just don’t matter on this one!  Truly, it’s the last thing anyone would notice!  I do love half square triangles, they are such fun.  Do you use them much? I definitely will use them again soon.

Some gorgeous favourite fabrics in this.  Should be complete within two weeks I hope, and on it’s way south for the birthday

Sorry I can’t show any more of it, you will have to wait till it’s posted and received!

Embroidery Course

Last week I began an embroidery design course, called "Sumptuous Surface Embroidery", with Sharon Boggon at Pintangle.

Last Wednesday started week 1, and it has been very interesting.  I am learning lots of useful things. Sharon is teaching us how to design and work our own embroideries so there's a lot of thinking and drawing going on here so far!

I thought you might like to see what I have come up with so far:

It's a fairly broad concept, but I like this interpretation. It all came from this head!!

I was thinking of doing a 6" x 6" piece, but that is an awful lot of stitches, so it may end up a bit smaller!
And these are the threads I will be doing this piece in:

For the first three weeks we are working in monotone, and letting the texture show without worrying about colour, and the last three weeks we work in colour on another design of our own.

While I'm here, I will tell you that there are an unbelievable number of half square triangles being worked here, so the quilt is coming along in leaps and bounds. In fact that is why I haven't been posting as often, but I hopefully will be back to normal soon....

Quilts on the Go

Like I said last night, I have been doing some sewing as well - I have started this project for a large quilt made of half and quarter square triangles.

The hardest part was cutting out all these zillions (well it felt like zillions - it was a whole lot, took me hours) of 6" squares to use

Then of course, I have to make the half square triangles, trim all the dog eared points, the cut again and make some quarter square triangles.

If something doesn't want to fit, there are plenty of scraps and strings to attach to everything, and make them fit!  This is a very true blue scrappy.

Need this one by June this year - wish me luck!!

Next up, there's this one:-

I've decided to cut it up and make small hanging quilts from it - they will make nice gifts.

Them there's this one :-

I wasn't going to show this yet - but this is the block that I made for my Block Swap Australia partner, Kate (sorry Kate, I called you Kay last night, and it left here today - so she should have it tomorrow or the next day.  I do hope she likes it - she asked for autumn tones or brown and aqua, in any design apart from Baltimore - so I guessed that was applique - so I didn't.  Do you think it's ok?

French Knots are the embroidery stitch for this week, but I haven't started my sampler yet and there is also another quilt happening but I can't show pics of that one yet.

So I'm pretty busy!
